Ordonez sisters lead Dukes to easy win over Proviso West

By Dan Santaromita

One Ordonez has been more than enough to frustrate York's opponents this year.

Two of them on the field at once figures to be flat out scary.

Sophomore Christina Ordonez had a hat trick and her younger sister, freshman Ellie Ordonez, had two goals and two assists for York on Thursday.

Those efforts helped lead the Dukes to a 10-0 West Suburban Conference Silver division win over Proviso West in Elmhurst.

MaryKate Cicinelli, Sam Luke, Nicole Foster, Ashley Bowman and Abbey Wilkins also scored for York (13-4, 5-0).

Goalies Anna Bell Lansdowne and Jillian Ernst combined for the shutout and neither had registered a save.

Ellie had been out with a lower back injury and made her season debut last Saturday. Thursday night marked her fourth game of the year and her first goals.

"It's hard because I've been out for four months but it's getting easier because I've been playing more and more," Ellie said.

The two talented forwards showed why the present and future for York is very bright.

"Our ideal is to have them next to each other up front with (Courtney) McHugh on the other side," coach Rachael Shepherd said.

The sisters showed how well they work together with a nicely executed give-and-go. Ellie assisted Christina to complete her hat trick just before halftime.

"I used to play with her on club, U-12 and U-13," Ellie said. "I like playing with her again because I know where she is going to be and I know she is going to get to the ball."

They'll certainly enjoy playing together with results like they had against the Panthers.

"It's awesome," Christina said of playing with her sister. "We used to play together when we were younger on Team Elmhurst, but we switched teams so we haven't really been able to play on the same team.

"Now that she's at York, it's really good. We have really good chemistry on the field because we're used to playing with each other so it's nice."

Christina said she has 30 goals on the year, a number so incredible it's almost hard to imagine.

With both Ordonez's in the fold and others returning from injury, things are setting up well for the Dukes to make a nice stretch run.

"They're a good group," Shepherd said. "It's nice to finally get healthy and have our full stock back. We're still short one, but for the most part we're almost full to capacity."

The timing couldn't be better. After hosting St. Ignatius on Saturday, the Dukes will visit Lyons Township in a battle of conference unbeatens on Tuesday.

The win over Proviso West was never in question but Shepherd said the match was an opportunity to work on possession and things that need improvement.

"There can't be a wasted day at this point in time in the season," Shepherd said. "We just have to keep working on the possession, keep moving the ball, keep knocking the ball and you know just keep doing that kind of stuff.

"Whoever wins the Lyons game wins conference so that's pretty big."
